Common sense dictates that one should avoid venomous snakes.
It also dictates that when confronted with a venomous snake, one should not pick it up.
If one ignores items one and two, common sense dictates that one should seek medical treatment immediately if bitten.
Only religion could cause one to ignore all three, and become an entry in the next Darwin Awards.
